How to Make Your Cocoa With Alcohol for a Warm Winter Drink

Keep warm this winter with these recipes for hot chocolate with alcohol. Try Coconut Almond Cocoa, Minty Madness Cocoa and Chocolate Covered Berry Cocoa.

Looking for a way to brighten up the upcoming dark winter evenings? Try some alcoholic hot chocolate drink recipes. Hot chocolate is a staple for kids, but these recipes will turn it into a treat that adults will also crave. These drinks are great for entertaining or just just getting cozy in front of the TV under a favorite afghan.

Don't drink alcohol? Replace the alcohol with syrups for flavoring coffee, such as Torani. These can be found in most specialty grocery stores. These syrups are sweeter that alcohol, so use only half the amount called for in the recipe. For example, 1/2 oz. amaretto flavored Torani instead of 1 oz. Amaretto De Saronno.

Alcoholic Coconut Almond Cocoa

Serves 2

Ingredients:

  • 2 tbsp. cocoa powder
  • 2 tbsp. sugar
  • 2 c. milk
  • 1 oz. Parrot Bay or Malibu coconut rum
  • 1 oz. Amaretto De Saronno or amaretto liqueur
  • Whipped cream (optional)
  • Shredded coconut as garnish (optional)

Directions:

  1. Mix sugar, milk and cocoa powder in a sauce pan over medium heat. Heat until steaming, not boiling.
  2. Add in liqueur and rum. Pour into two mugs.
  3. Top with whipped cream, if desired. Drizzle amaretto over whipped cream, if desired.
  4. Top with shredded coconut.

This candy cane inspired drink is fantastic for a holiday gathering. Add a candy cane as a stirrer for extra minty flavor!

Alcoholic Minty Madness Cocoa

Serves 2

Ingredients:

  • 2 tbsp. cocoa powder
  • 2 tbsp. sugar
  • 2 c. milk
  • 1 oz. Godiva Liqueur or Creme de Cacao liqueur
  • 1 oz. Creme de Menthe liqueur
  • Whipped cream (optional)
  • Peppermint stick or candy cane (optional)

Directions:

  1. Mix sugar, milk and cocoa powder in a sauce pan over medium heat. Heat until steaming, not boiling.
  2. Add in liqueurs and pour into two mugs.
  3. Top with whipped cream, if desired. Drizzle creme de menthe over whipped cream, if desired.
  4. Add peppermint stick as garnish.

Alcoholic Chocolate Covered Berry Cocoa

Serves 2

Ingredients:

  • 2 tbsp. cocoa powder
  • 2 tbsp. sugar
  • 2 c. milk
  • 1 oz. Strawberry Stoli vodka or other strawberry vodka
  • 1 oz. Chambord liqueur or raspberry liqueur
  • Whipped cream (optional)
  • Fresh strawberry (optional)

Directions:

  1. Mix sugar, milk and cocoa powder in a sauce pan over medium heat. Heat until steaming, not boiling.
  2. Add in vodka and liqueur. Pour into two mugs.
  3. Top with whipped cream, if desired. Drizzle Chambord over whipped cream, if desired.
  4. Make a small cut in the strawberry and place on rim of glass as garnish.
