Fall may be lurking just around the corner, but these cool, refreshing cocktails will keep the summertime parties rolling. Sit back and travel the world while delighting in these three exotic and easy-to-prepare concoctions.

Tinto de Verano, Spain

In English, tinto de verano literally means “summer red wine.” This popular cocktail is adored by both locals and guiris (foreigners) alike. Though more commonly consumed during the hot summer months in southern Spain, this refreshing drink is enjoyed year round and is a cheap option in any Spanish bar or restaurant.

Ingredients and Directions:

  • 1/2 Cup red wine (any type)
  • 1/2 Cup club soda (you can also use sparkling lemonade or lemon-lime soda for extra flavor)
  • Lemon slice
  • Ice cubes

Combine the red wine of your choosing with the club soda or alternative over ice. Garnish with a lemon slice and enjoy.

Mojito, Cuba

Though originally concocted in Cuba, the mojito has quickly become an international favorite. The seductive blend of crisp club soda and cool mint make this pick-me-up the perfect addition to any summertime celebration. The best part of the mojito is the endless modifications that can be used to make this drink unique.

Ingredients and Directions:

  • Collins Glass
  • Crushed ice
  • 4-5 Fresh mint leaves
  • 1 Teaspoon powdered sugar
  • 2 Ounces club soda
  • 2 Ounces clear rum
  • 1 Lime (for garnish and juicing)
  • 1 Muddler

Put the fresh mint leaves into the Collins glass. Cut the lime in half and squeeze one half over the mint leaves. Add the powdered sugar and use the muddler to combine the three together. Place the crushed ice in the glass and pour in the rum. Top it off with the club soda. Slice the other half of the lime into fourths to use as a garnish. For a modern twist on the typical mojito recipe, throw fresh strawberries into the mix.

Spritz, Italy

Spritz is a common and traditional cocktail enjoyed by all generations of Italians. This cocktail is also known as pirlo in some northern Italian towns such as Brescia. Spritz is often served before meals to stimulate the appetite, but it is acceptable to drink it during any hour. Prepare this fizzy delight as a before-dinner drink and pretend to watch the sun set in a charming Italian piazza.

Ingredients and Directions:

  • 1 1/2 Ounces campari or aperol
  • 3 Ounces sparkling white wine
  • Club soda
  • Lemon or orange slice
  • Champagne flute

Pour the campari or aperol into a champagne flute. Next, insert the white wine of your choice. Add a splash of club soda. Finally, complete the spritz with either a slice of lemon or orange, or both.
