If you're hosting a dinner party or family event and are looking for a signature drink, then you should consider the Strawberry Martini. It's easy to make, here's how.

When it comes to serving your guests this lavish libation, make sure that you are using the highest quality ingredients. Purchase fresh strawberries over their frozen counterparts. Even if strawberries are out of season, you'll only need a couple per drink. Also, spend a little extra money on vodka. People are readily impressed when the liquor is of top shelf quality. For steep savings, purchase the vodka at big buy stores such as Costco or Sam's Club. Many times the top shelf vodka is the same price or even cheaper than lesser brands found at your local liquor store. Finally, when it comes to purchasing the strawberry syrup, skip the kind people place on top of ice cream and go for the syrup used in the base of Italian sodas. Torani makes a very popular brand that is sugar free to boot. Look for it at food specialty shops and large grocers.

Things You'll Need for your Strawberry Martini

  • Martini Shaker
  • Martini Glasses
  • Sugar
  • Milk
  • Fresh Strawberries
  • Knife
  • Ice
  • Vodka
  • Strawberry Syrup

Preparing the Martini Glass and Garnishes

  1. Slice two strawberries for each martini you are making. The first strawberry will be sliced through the middle so that it can sit on the side of the martini glass. The second strawberry will be sliced thinly from the base to the top (discard the stem) so that pieces of strawberry can float in the martini glass.
  2. Pour a small amount of milk into a bowl. (Make sure that the bowl is wide enough so that your martini glass can fit into it while upside-down.
  3. Pour a small amount of sugar on a plate.
  4. Dip each martini glass into the milk so that just the rim is coated.
  5. Dip each martini glass into the sugar, so that the sugar sits on the outside rim of the glass.

Stand the martini glass upright and add the first strawberry so that it sits on the rim of the glass.

Mixing the Strawberry Martini

  1. Combine the ice, three jiggers of vodka, splash of strawberry syrup, and sprinkle of sugar into a martini shaker.
  2. Shake vigorously for 30 seconds to a minute.
  3. Strain the drink into your garnished martini glass.
  4. Finish the Strawberry Martini by placing your thinly sliced pieces of strawberry into the drink.
  5. Serve to your family and friends. This recipe makes one large or two small Strawberry Martinis.

Variations on the Strawberry Martini Recipe

Sites such as Recipezaar and Shot-Cocktail-Recipe offer other variations on the Strawberry Martini, including some made with gin. (Gin is the other popular base alcohol for martini making.)
